The Assassination Of President Armas Of Guatemala, is a newsreel that was published in 1957. The historical context relates to my topic, as Armas took the presidency during the Guatemalan Coup through a small army takeover. This newsreel was created by Pathe News, a British news station. They created it in response to the assassination of President Carlos Castillo Armas on July 26th, 1957.
The authors point of view is tricky to pinpoint, as they are reporting on the death, but I believe the source could be bias, as they do say a specific wording that stuck out to me. “His death came as violently as his rise to power.” However, the source seems to be on his side otherwise. The overall history of this source is important, as it ends the chapter in Guatemala’s history, as Armas Took power and brought freedom to the Guatemalan people.
